Renewable Resources

Renewable resources are energy commodities that can be harvested in a sustainable manner. Over the past few decades, renewable energy technologies have been gaining a larger share of the energy spectrum due to their ability to reduce the costs and uncertainty of energy supply and increase energy security while having low environmental impacts.

Renewable resources will become more and more important as an energy source as fossil fuels begin to fade out. The USCEI research activities are contributing to develop new and more efficient technologies in four key areas of research - solar, geothermal, microbial fuel cells, and biofuels.
