Environmental Impact

The use of energy contributes to air pollution including ozone, NOx, and small particulates. Air pollution, especially in urban areas, impacts our health, particularly in that of our children. The USCEI multidisciplinary approach extends to these pollution induced medical issues - research at USC is uncovering the health consequences of air pollution. Moreover, we look at the environmental impacts of underserved populations as part of our environmental justice research. With better knowledge of how and where air pollution affects people, we can make better policy decisions.

Energy use impacts land, coastal environments and the oceans and USCEI research includes the assessment of the impact of land use on the environment, and the consequences of human induced impacts on coastal marine environments.
